3g is just part of the plan. yes. as long as your phone supports 3g, it will have 3g (wherever available)

it should, I don't recall any U.S. carriers having a "2G" only plan anymore. Everything is just one data plan.

Assuming that the phone is also compatible with that network's 3G. For example, T-mobile's 3G network is incompatible with any non-branded phone.

Also, I've noticed that I rarely get good 3G coverage indoors. Though honestly unless you tether your phone or access content-heavy sites (non-mobile versions of them), you won't notice much difference between the older EDGE/2G networks and 3G.

And I know some networks like to charge extra for tethering and try to prevent you from tethering on a cheaper data plan, even if it is supposed to be unlimited.
