That refuses to go away.

For several months, everytime McAfee scans, it will say it detected 10 items. When I look at the scan log, it says they are all some variation of "Generic PUP.xls" or something like that. I click to remove them. It either removes it, or says that it can't be fully removed.

Today, McAfee has popped up several times telling me it blocked this particular virus, and asked if I wanted to delete it. Just now will be the third time today I've told it yes.

What's going on here? What is this virus, and how can I rid myself of it for good?

PUP is Potentially Unwanted Program so it is not necessarily a virus.

You might want to consider taking your computer in for some work.

I know how to work on my computer, if necessary. I'm thinking that I might need to completely clean my computer out, back to the factory edition. But I don't want to that, because I'll lose all my files =/

The virus is probably one of those self-replicating ones. Look up the name of the virus, and search for manual removal instructions. There is probably a file somewhere that keeps recreating the virus every time you delete it.

You need a better antivirus program.

Try running a different antivirus program and see if that can remove it. There are some good free ones and the ones that you have to pay for often offer free trials.
