Hi All,

Lately I have been really interested in researching for the studying abroad program my school offers. The countries I am interested in are:  1) Rome, 2) London, or 3) Hawaii.
Anyways, the question I have is, I have a BF of 2 years.
I dont know if I should ask him to go with me or not. At first, the whole reason I wanted to study abroad was to meet new people and have a once in a  life time opportunity to explore the world, to be away from him for a bit. Now, that im thinking about it, im not sure what to do.  If I want to take time from him for a while, or ask him to go with me.  Has anyone asked there significant other to go on a study abroad trip or no?
I would like to know what you think I should do.

Ive had a similar situation like this when i went with my church to Mexico.. I told my bf the reason why i wanted to go was to help ppl and meet new ppl..  but when i got there.. it was cool to be with different ppl but i missed the comfort of a close friend.. so i dunno/ i would bring em' and then if you get sick of seeing each other.. just separate or a bit

I find it hard to believe that Hawaii is offered in the stuyd abroad oppurtunities, but alright.

If you are serious about studying abroad you should let him know long before you leave. Let it sink in. When he is more use to the idea you can go from there. If you are looking for a new way of life to experiment with you probably shouldn't ask him to go with you. You two could just have an open relationship (as in you can date other people) while you are on your abroad trip. Thats what I would do, but then again, I am not you.

Hmm... well first of all. Hawaii is not a country. Second, I think you should take this time apart. That may sound very definate but if you two go together you are going to only have eachother and most likely at least one of you is going to end up clinging to the other one and you aren't going to get the full, enriching experience that you could otherwise. My ex-boyfriend and I moved out of state and went to the same college (not a study abroad but still away from home... I wasn't dating anyone when I did my actual study abroad fortunately) and we were so isolated our first year here. When you do a study abroad it often takes a lot of courage to branch out and having him there will make that less likely. If you two are meant to be together then you will get together again when you get back. Take this time for yourself. Your still young, have an adventure alone before you get tied down for good and don't have that opportunity.

Ya Thats Very True, I agree with you AMC.

I'm only 21 years old, and I wanted to take some time to explore the world when I have the chance to, before I graduate college.

My school offers a short-term program to Hawaii, not full Fall or Spring term.
