Assisted suicide as it were, is for the terminally ill. Someone dying from cancer or other medical issues. Why would they want to go kill a cop only to be sentenced to death. And with them, it would be YEARS before they got to death row. Your post doesn't really have much validity.

Assisted suicide, where legal, is restricted to that demographic yes. However, that does not mean that there are not healthy non terminally ill people that wish to have assisted suicide. Those people often are on the brink, and being able to kill their antagonist and receive assisted suicide for free is nothing more then the best possible thing they can have happen for them.

While that's an interesting argument, but what about the whole notion of "Death with Dignity"?

Referring to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Death_with_Dignity_Act? Like I said, it is true that some states have assisted suicide itself legalized. However, it is restricted (typically) to only those with diagnosed terminal illnesses. The death sentence does not have this restriction, anyone who is willing to kill is applicable. It does not matter if they're sane or insane.

Those people don't really need assistance, they can just put a gun to their head. I wish they would do that rather than go to an office or store and just open fire. They wouldn't realize that ahead of time and go to a doctor and say "I need to die" and ask for assistance.
Unless they are a minor... Should the crime be significant enough a minor can be tried as an adult and sentenced to death. And in this case, a minor is anyone under the age of 22 which is the legal age one must be in order to purchase a hand gun. Post edited at 4:05 pm on July 9, 2009 by ihaveahugemember

Absolutely. Many 14 year old kids who commit murder should be executed on their 18th birthday. Happy Birthday

Actually, if they are considered to be "insane" or psychotic, the death penalty isn't supposed to apply. http://www.amnestyusa.org/abolish/mental_illness.html

To them it very well could be a happy birthday, the happiest they've had.

This is true, however it is purely discretionary as to whether or not the to be sentenced is indeed insane. Unless the to be sentenced is diagnosed with a mental disability applicable to their case, it is up to the jury to decide and the lawyer to prove. As such, should one who is undiagnosed but indeed insane wish to be given the death penalty they simply need not lobby for such a case. Often the case is argued by the defendent in order to achieve life sentencing rather than death, the plantiff hardly has any reason to argue this as it may only hurt their case. So it really is up to the defendent as to which of the two evils they consider to be lesser.

I really don't think so. How many people do you think get up and walk to the death chamber on their own? Most of the time, they're are given drugs weeks before the execution date to relax them and make them sleep. So on D-day, they are so out of it that they are led to their death and strapped to the table and that's it. If they weren't drugged 100% of them would be dragged kicking and screaming and crying to the execution room.
