I'm 16, and where I live a lot of the people my age work like after school and stuff. There's a lot of places around here that hire teens and they don't really make them work much because they know they have to go to school. I don't see the problem with it because it's not like I do anything after school anyways and last school year I started my hw at like 7 or 8 pm. My parents pretty much pay for everything for me, but I'm limited because it's not like I can just ask them for 50 bucks here and there. Plus it would be nice to have money and save for something, anything. she says I'm too young to get a job and she thinks I'm making it seem simpler than it really is. But a lot of my friends have jobs and it's really not as big of a deal as my mom is making it. she would'nt even let me get a job over this SUMMER!

Maybe you should go ahead and just get a job anyway.

Tell her this is not a reason enough for you. It's very important to experience somthing like this when you are a teen.

If she doesn't listen to you, write her a letter or ask your friends' mom to talk to her

There;s nowhere local? Even a supermarket/fast food place is okay as a starting job. Or use public transport.

Getting a job is a step towards adulthood and sometimes your parents are not going to be willing to let you take that step. You see everything as a do able and you have nothing better to do kind of thing, they see it as "how is she going to get to work?" "what if she fails a semester?" kind of thing. You must be sensitive to these kinds of issues as you try to get approval for this.

When you approach her to ask for this, mention a couple of things: how are you going to get there? how often are you going to work? is it going to affect your grades? are you going to be able to drive there soon? are you going to be responsible with your money? where is your money going to go? are you going to inconvenience them in the process? is it legal for you to work? what about taxes?

I know it seems all black and white but, as a parent they want what is best for your future and most of the time will not hesitate to hold you back from things that could crash your hopes and dreams, it's just their nature. You need to tell them you have all the bases covered and you're responsible enough to handle it. Be responsible and you're sure to be allowed into it.

I wish you luck.

My parents won't let me get a job either.
My mum says never. Pfft, yeah!
My dad says when I'm around sixteen I can get one though, so, I'll have to wait it out.

I think sixteen is reasonable enough though.
So, talk to her, really talk to her properly.
Act mature and then you might convince her!
Good luck!

maybe you should go explain the truth that you really need a job ASAP... plus you'll get something that's worth for you like a few bucks maybe and so to make easy for your parents..
