Hey there, Eating disorders can be extremely complicated, both mentally and physically. It's important for you to understand that when someone has gone through or is going through an eating disorder they can be very, for lack of a better word, unstable. For this reason, if you do suspect she is falling back into old ways, you must approach the situation carefully. It's fantastic that you're willing to help her and watch out for her, that truly makes me happy. :) It isn't uncommon for those suffering from eating disorders to have suicidal feelings. Because of the emotional stress and anguish eating disorders carry, suicidal feelings sometimes follow, unfortunately. It's also very important to look out for signs that she may be feeling this way. If you do become aware of anything that may point to her being bulimic, anorexic or suicidal - you really do need to contact an adult. It's extremely hard for one untrained person to help another one suffering from something so mentally exhausting. Telling her parents, your parents or a doctor is a fantastic idea. Okay, as for signs and characteristics of anorexia nervosa, I find this website to be extremely helpful. Signs of bulimia nervosa can be find through this helpful website too. Also, here at LiveWire we have a Teen Eating Disorders forum, and within that forum there is an Eating Disorder FAQ. Within that FAQ there is information about all different types of eating disorders, including links to helpful websites. It may also be important for you to understand anorexia and bulimia, so you can understand your girlfriend better. As for the suicidal tendencies and thoughts, there are plenty of website all over the Internet that can help you better understand. This website may give you an idea of how she may be acting, and and this website will give you a good idea of how to deal with it. People who are suicidal usuallyopen up to someone they really trust, so try talking to her and tell her you're there for her. If you start to feel like she is slipping back into old ways, remember to tell an adult, especially a doctor or parent. Good luck! - Sarah.
