I'm currently dating a girl who has gone through being bulemic, anorexic and has even tried to commit suicide. Unfortunatly, all of this happened before i started to date her.

I need to know the signs for bulemia, anorexia and suicide. I'm worried about her as she's still stuck in a position where these problems may arise again.

Thank you,
Kyle

First of all, you are a great friend if you are so worried about her.
Try to keep her happy and talk as much as possible, I mean real talk, show how much you CARE for her, don't show that you are WORRIED to much.

Here are some links for you.
Bulimia - http://www.helpguide.org/mental/bulimia_signs_symptoms_causes_treatment.htm
Anorexia -
http://www.helpguide.org/mental/anorexia_signs_symptoms_causes_treatment.htm

Also there are mixtures of both...

Keep an eye on her, don't force her to eat and just be a good friend as you are.

Let her know that you are there for her.

Best wishes,
Kathy.

Make sure your girl friend knows that you are there to support her through all of this. As Kathy said, have lots of deep talks with her and keep a close eye on her. Bulimia and anorexia are difficult things to deal with, so she may not open up to you straight away but give it time and I'm sure she will just don't put to much pressure on her.

Here are a few links I found that may assist you:
http://www.helpguide.org/mental/depression_teen.htm
http://www.sfsuicide.org/html/warning.html
http://www.helpguide.org/mental/eating_disorder_treatment.htm

If you are really worried about her maybe you should start encouraging her to speak to a professional because all of the things you have mentioned are very serious issues and i would benefit both your girl friend and you if she started to talk to a councillor or doctor.

I wish you both good luck and I hope I helped. If you have any more questions or just want to talk feel free to PM me any time you like.

Hey there,

Eating disorders can be extremely complicated, both mentally and physically. It's important for you to understand that when someone has gone through or is going through an eating disorder they can be very, for lack of a better word, unstable. For this reason, if you do suspect she is falling back into old ways, you must approach the situation carefully. It's fantastic that you're willing to help her and watch out for her, that truly makes me happy. :)

It isn't uncommon for those suffering from eating disorders to have suicidal feelings. Because of the emotional stress and anguish eating disorders carry, suicidal feelings sometimes follow, unfortunately. It's also very important to look out for signs that she may be feeling this way. If you do become aware of anything that may point to her being bulimic, anorexic or suicidal - you really do need to contact an adult.  It's extremely hard for one untrained person to help another one suffering from something so mentally exhausting.  Telling her parents, your parents or a doctor is a fantastic idea.

Okay, as for signs and characteristics of anorexia nervosa, I find this website to be extremely helpful.  Signs of bulimia nervosa can be find through this helpful website too.  Also, here at LiveWire we have a Teen Eating Disorders forum, and within that forum there is an Eating Disorder FAQ.  Within that FAQ there is information about all different types of eating disorders, including links to helpful websites.  It may also be important for you to understand anorexia and bulimia, so you can understand your girlfriend better.

As for the suicidal tendencies and thoughts, there are plenty of website all over the Internet that can help you better understand.  This website may give you an idea of how she may be acting, and and this website will give you a good idea of how to deal with it.  People who are suicidal usuallyopen up to someone they really trust, so try talking to her and tell her you're there for her.  If you start to feel like she is slipping back into old ways, remember to tell an adult, especially a doctor or parent.

Good luck!
- Sarah.

Eating disorders never completely go away. It's a constant struggle. It's hard to recover and she just needs to know that you're there for her. Be there for her if she starts to break down again. Yes, the same problems may arise but there will always be a way to solve it. Just don't let it get too out of hand. If you can't help her than I suggest you go to someone older maybe even a doctor that knows more about eating disorders. They'll help you out more. They'll be able to handle the situation correctly. It's the right thing to do.
There's always a reason for wanting to commit suicide. She may not want to talk about it but if she does it's best you be there for her. Just listen to what she has to say and comfort her. Find out what's bugging her and see if you two can solve it together. If it's not as simple as that then again a doctors visit would be advised. Just someone that can really tell you how to deal with it or help her directly.

I hope I've help, drop me a message if you need anything else. Good luck with everything.

Yours truly,
Kanenas54

When are person is anorexic, they obviously don't eat. Signs of bulemia is excessive eating, followed by immidiately going to the bathroom. A way to get her to stop with her eating disorder is to talk with her about it. Suggest professional help. And also if she denies it or refuses, perhaps you should tell her parents. They can do something about it and make her get help for it. She may not like it, but it's what's best for her. It'll keep her alive and save her in the long run.

Do what you think is best. And keep a sharp eye on her.
