I've only been diagnosed with one mental disorder (OCD), but I seem to have developed another since (auditory hallucinations, echolalia, etc.). I'm not currently on any medication.
The new disorder has gotten progressively more severe over the last year. It isn't as frustrating as the OCD, but I'm worried that I could lose my grasp on reality or morality if it continues to progress.
I would very much prefer to avoid seeing a shrink. I had an unforgivable experience with one as a child. I really, really never want to see one again, and not just for rational reasons. It borders on a phobia. Can neuroleptics be prescribed by anyone else?
I'm also considering marijuana or some other drug that doesn't require a prescription...

doing drugs such as marijuana may oly make it worse.
OCD sucks...
Go to your local doctor/GP?? or try another shrink... not all shrinks are the same...

He is right. Marijuana makes things much worse for people like us with mental problems. ESPECIALLY if you are hallucinating. I suggest scheduling an appointment with a psychiatrist if you are so scared of therapy. They prescribe medication.

Furthermore, have you looked up the symptoms? Do you have an idea of what it could be?

Possibly schizophrenia. I don't want to self-diagnose.
The difference is that they are there to diagnose and manage medication. This will help you and it seems like you need it. If it is schizophrenia (which my dad has) I do not suggest doing weed. Weed only heightens the effects of schizophrenia. If it is that though you can realise that those voices and or hallucinations are not real. I know it is hard but that is a step to getting better. Ask your doctor about abilify or raspidol (sp?) those helped my dad and me.

Illegal drugs will not do you any good, chances are they will only make your symptoms worse and from what I have heard any symptoms such as hallucinations will become unbearable. Im not sure which one you are afraid of. Psychologists, or Psychiatrists. From the posts above, I'm assuming its Psychologists, where you do alot of talking, no medications. Seeing a Psychiatrist involves alot less talking about your feelings and they will prescribe you medication.
