A friend of mine told me there was no point of it, you may as well just claim to be Atheistic. He said no matter what, if there IS a God and you don't fully believe in him, you're going to Hell.

Thoughts?

being agnostic doesn't mean that you DON'T believe in god, it doesn't mean that you DO believe in god either. it's unfair of him to say that.

Not necessarily...there are other gods that people believe in. Not just the one who damns people to Hell. I don't think there's anything wrong with being Agnostic.

You should watch the video that pogobat made on youtube.
It's called "A letter to god" or something like that.

That's exactly what I believe.

You have to choose one way or the other. "I don't know" doesn't protect you from the obvious dichotomy. You either have an active belief in a deity or you do not, in which case you are an atheist--an agnostic atheist, but an atheist none-the-less.

Well I think being agnostic is meant to mean having an open mind about religion. Doesn't mean you're going to hell or you don't beleive in god or anything like that, it just means that perhaps you do beleive there might be a higher power, you just want to give it more thought.

Agnostics aren't this so that they won't go to hell, they're this because they think that there is something "out there" but are uncertain if this something is a god, and if it is a god what god it is.

I am an agnostic, I don't know exactely what I believe but I think there is something after death.

An atheist, on the other hand, would argue that there is nothing after death and knows what it is they believe in (or rather don't believe in).

Your friend is kind of silly.

I think if there's a heaven, people who don't do good stuff to apease their god are more likely to get in. A kind Satin worshipper has a higher chance then some preists imo.

no - i don't believe there's enough evidence to prove if there is or isn't a god. obviously i'm not going to be a thiest but i'm definitely not an athiest. i'm unsure about my faith so i'm not going to be worshipping anything or anyone, and at the same time i'm not going to deny the possibility that there is a god and an afterlife etc. you dont HAVE to do anything.

Every agnostic is also either an atheist or a theist (you have to be an atheist or theist; there is no other choice and agnosticism responds to a different question entirely), so I don't really see your friend's point.

If you are not a theist, then you are--by definition--an atheist. Like is said:

You don't have to have an active DISbelief in a deity to be an atheist; all that is necessary is the lack of an active belief in one.
