I've been looking at laptops for university and this one I saw looks really good.  The only thing is that it's processor is 1.3GHz, which is apparently really bad.  I'm no techy, can someone tell me how this might be a problem?  I heard it could make the laptop battery drain faster (it lasts 8 hours tho) and heat up faster (so?).

The processor is basically the most important component in a computer. The part that you want to be the best is the processor.

That's not memory that's your harddrive.

Get a friend who knows what he is talking about to help you. The processor will run your computer the higher the ghz the faster it will run. I think you should be looking for a laptop with at least 2ghz processing speed and 1-2gb RAM

1.3GHz, 4GB of RAM and 320 gigs of harddrive space sounds a lot like the ideal laptop, if anything. The processing speed is somewhat average but this isn't really a problem. Look at all the RAM you have, it will surely handle any application you throw at it, regardless of processing speed. Most applications these days only really require about 1GHz for decent processing ability. For a laptop it's good enough and will still run reasonably quickly.

If your battery lasts for 8 hours then there is obviously no problem here. If your laptop is getting to hot or something like that there there is always the option of purchasing an external fan that you can place underneath your laptop. Over-heating can be damaging to your computer if it's excessively hot but I also don't feel this is the case. But if you really feel you need one, one of my friends bought an external fan from Best Buy for only about $50 and she loves it. It would also be helpful to keep your computer and room ventilated.

If you're using your laptop on your lap, make sure not to cover up the fan holes with your legs or anything like that. Otherwise you should really have no problems whatsoever. You have a great computer, don't let people tell you otherwise. :)

I'm betting its an Atom processor, judging by the clock speed.

So, it should run at a lower temperature, and consume less power, resulting in a longer battery life than most other processors.

However, it will also be slower than most other processors.

If you plan to do little other than word processing and browsing the internet, listening to music and suchlike, it ought to be fine.

If you want to run modern computer games, or do anything like video editing or serious use of Photoshop, buy something faster.
