Word. Seconded. Proper E is a time, indeed. Most definitely with music. And friends. And glow-sticks, ceiling fans, and cellphones, etc.

But in response to the first question, for the same reason people seek sex. Essentially, to achieve a successful altered state is to reaffirm that we are actually alive. How this is true varies with each person. Speculation, of course.
