I find them interesting for opening areas of your mind that aren't readily accessible sober.
For example, I traveled to Washington State 5 years ago, climbed to the top of a mountain. My dopamine levels and endorphins were pumping strong that day. But, I had to pay for airfare and all associated expenses for going there.
I take an opiate, for example, and reach the same levels of chemicals, and open that level of my brain.
I only use drugs very rarely, though, to keep my brain fresh, so to speak.
