Should I use my AP score as a waiver or take the class?

I self-studied my way to a 5 on AP Psychology, as in, I read a prep book and took the exam without ever having had a teacher or whatnot.

So I was all excited to have received credit, but I crammed for the AP last minute and I'm finding that I don't remember a lot of the material anymore. It's kind of simple material, and idk how necessary it really is to certain higher-level Psychology courses that I'm interested in.

SHOULD I TAKE PSYC001 IN COLLEGE ANYWAY? OR TAKE A MORE ADVANCED PSYC COURSE, ACCEPTING THE AP WAIVER?

I'm worried about keeping a good GPA my freshman year, but the whole point of preparing for the AP was to get out of PSYC001. Idk. Skipping PSYC001 doesn't save me time later... as a major I'd have to just take another advanced-level course.

you'll remember more than you think you will and it'll be one less class you have to take later on in college.

But it's not one less class. If I major in Psychology, and have waived 001, then I just have to add on one other class.

yes...but you'll finish your required number of credits sooner which means you're in college less

No. It is not credit. A waiver is not a credit. It literally does not make any difference down the road.

I would say no. If you just read a prep book and didn't have an ACTUAL teacher, I would go ahead and take the actual class. If you want to do well and not overwhelm yourself, you should take the class. You're a freshman, so you won't be behind. There's academic maps for psychology majors.

AP classes are nothing like college classes. I took AP Stats in high school, didn't pass the AP exam, took Stats this summer, and it was much different than I remembered.

Also, it's good to build on classes you've taken at one particular school. I asked my school adviser if I could take Intro to Financial Accounting this summer at a different school (accounting is my major), and he said no. It's better to take classes that will lead to your major at the same school, where the teachers know what you will need to build on for later on.

Take the credit.  If it was high school, I'd say go for it, but being as you're now going to have to work extra hard to re-learn that same information, as well as having to pay for it.  I'd say use it as a waiver to get out of that class, and go for the next one in line.  You'll have to do a little bit of work to remember some of the things you learned, but luckily most of the beginning lessons are just reviewing what you already know.

they won't give you credit? are you sure about this? that makes no sense if you got a 5

It is not a credit. I got a credit unit for another one of my fives... but for this one, it is definitely "Waiver: PSYC001 (No Credit)."

it shouldn't be that hard because you've learnt the stuff
also it's always nice to brush up on the stuff so you dont forget it for the next year

I would go ahead and take a higher level of Psych. That's what I'm doing anyways.
