Yes, and some presidents are too bull headed to know or admit when they made a mistake.
As for Viet Nam- it is a perfect example of a war that should have never been fought.  
Ironic that it was started under false premise just like Iraq.

Read your history- Johnson got congress to send major troops there by claiming one of our ships was fired upon- it's called the "Gulf of Token" incident- and the authorization to turn our "advisory role" into a combat role was called the "Gulf of Token" resolution.   The thing about it is the "Gulf of Token" incident was mostly fiction to trick congress into giving Johnson what he wanted.  

As for the value of the war,  after 12 years and over 50,000 causalities the war accomplished basically nothing but make a lot of money for military contractors.

The Gulf of Tonkin was not a reason, it was an excuse. No one thought the war was being launched because the Maddox got hit by those gunboats. It was to Ho Chi Minh and his boys rolling south and starting the dominoes falling.

Bush is the worst president in all of the United States history.  He has been called more secreative and deceptive than Nixon (who is famous for watergate and Vietnam) because he lied about bombing Iraq in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and will continue to bomb for another 20 years, according to Colin Powell and other high-ranking military officers.    There is no WMD in Iraq, which was the number 1, prime reason for war in Iraq.

Yeah I know because Nixon was who put us into Vietnam and Johnson and Kennedy had nothing to do with it.

Nixon spread the war to Cambodia which was a major escalation that caused public opinion to turn against the war.
