It was shown that that was a satellite in the viral advertising/alternate reality game that was around before the movie came out. The monster also totaled an oil rig owned by the company that whats-his-name was going to work for, two weeks or so before the events in the movie. That being said: No, I never saw it. I was told exactly where to look and everything, too. >:
