Quarantine is the latest thrill ride from Hollywood in the over-done horror genre. It's basically about a news crew and fire fighters that get 'quarantined' inside an apartment complex after a rabies-like disease breaks out. The movie is from the news camera's point of view and shot from the hands of the cameraman.
Unlike what I thought going into the movie, it's not that shaky and sometimes I had to remember the perspective of which I'm watching. The gore is not over the top; same story with the blood.
The difference here is the movie doesn't stop. It will throw you on the ground and keep thrashing you every few minutes with new jumps and frights. Bonus points for not having music as the mood-setter, yet still pull off a quality movie!
The Good:
+ Although slow in the beginning, it never lets up
+ New perspective used to present the movie
+ A new type of 'zombie'
+ No musical score setting the mood
+ Gore/blood was far from over the top
The Bad:
- Jennifer Carpenter's constant screaming/panting
- Cheesy dialogue made me laugh at times I should be biting my pillow
Final Say:
Other than the fact that I went in not really looking forward to sitting through 89 minutes of a movie, I enjoyed it. I like Jennifer Carpenter from Dexter, but she did get VERY annoying in this movie towards the end. Good movie to watch with the lights out and quiet setting.
Rating:
7/10
