then after the recession, stop taxing it. legalize it, there's no bad side affects, just leading to harder drugs

Legalize, it does much less harm than alcahol. (you never hear of anyone coming home and beating their wives now do you?) you can tax it and the goverment can make money. it will most likely reduce crime, because marijuana is supposedly the most used drug. its not very harmful, it can in fact be used as a medicine. i see no reason for it to still be illegal. and of course people are going to say its horrible, or its unhealthy. but you see how bad cigarettes are? and they are legal, they get you addicted and you can get cancer, its much more unhealthy. marijuana wont get you addicted or put really harmful chemicals in your body.

It would be a billion dollar industry. Taxes on that would help the economy out enormously.
Worried about the Mexican government falling into the hands of violent drug cartels? Well, legalize pot and those cartels will lose a massive chunk of their profits. Who in their right mind is going to risk dealing with a potentially violent drug dealer when they can just walk down to 7-11 and buy weed like you would cigarettes?
Sure, it can potentially ruin your life if you're irresponsible about it. But so can alcohol. Let's ban that. So can cigarettes. Let's ban those. So can caffeine. Let's ban that. So can spending. Let's ban shopping malls. See how ridiculous that gets?
