legalize it and tax it, will help out mass with the recession as well as put a lot of dealers out of business and less drug crime
then after the recession, stop taxing it. legalize it, there's no bad side affects, just leading to harder drugs
It only leads to hard drugs because if you are buying weed you are likely to come into contact with other substances aswell. Take shady dealers out of the picture by legalising weed and I bet you'll find a decrease in harder drug users.

Legalize it so that people can be taught responsibility with it. So many people already use it, but don't know how to handle it.

Why is it illegal in the first place? I don't understand that. I've heard that it's close to harmless.

In addition to tax revenues for the govt., something a lot of people are forgetting is that the 7.6 billion dollars spent annually on the war on cannabis (aka the war on drugs) will be eliminated from federal and state spending. Now these officers can be better used to ensure that peace and order is kept, and that truly dangerous people and substances can be kept at bay or even eliminated. In addition to these things, JOBS will be created for seed distributors/plant cloners, for hemp and marijuana farmers, for the trimmers and the curers, for distributors and their modes of transportation, and last but not least for hometown grocery, liquor, and convenience stores. Imagine this on a national scale, and at the very minimum you're looking at tens of thousands of jobs/opportunities for U.S.A. Everything grown, processed, shipped, and sold within our own currency flow, a force that can drive a stagnant economy into subtle movements towards a lively bull market. Add this to the benefits of medical legalization, and you've got a cheap alternative to high-cost medicine for EVERYONE, not only those with insurance. No longer will the black market drive dank strains up to $8,000 a lb. in dry areas; sheer numbers will drive the price down to universally cheap levels, ensuring that all can get quality at prices unheard of in today's world. As more and more states vote towards statewide medical legalization, we as a country step closer and closer towards the end of this meaningless, fruitless, and downright unconstitutional cannabis prohibition.

I'm all for legalization. I'd make the points, but most have them have already been made in this topic (less gang-related crime, no real reason for illegality, economy stabilizer, etc)
