I'm in 2nd year, finals are in April, and for 3rd year, is it advisable to become a TA? I'm in double major biology and psychology, and 3rd year courses are going to be, well rather hard I suppose, however, when do most people become TAs? Many of my TAs are graduate students but what is the ideal time to become a TA? I have some friends who are planning to become a TA in 3rd year, some in 4th year, and others as graduate students. So, is there an ideal time? By TA, I mean both the TAs for marking and the ones for teaching in tutorials.

All of my TAs are either doing their Masters or PhD. I'd wait until grad school.

Do it!  I wanted to start in my second year but I was taking 10 courses and 10 labs so I didn't have an open slot.  So I started back in my third year and it's pretty good times.  TAing has these great benefits:

- Pays well
- You have a job right on campus, which is awesome (less travelling)
- Mad respect, yo -- become a role model
- Learn how to teach and become a more personable person, which helps in many aspects of life
- Teaching reinforces your knowledge
- Get to know faculty better
- Undergrads make better TAs than grad students (if you're awesome)

TAing has helped me quite a bit, not only financially, but educationally and personally.  I highly recommend it to qualified people.

Yeah, most of mine are graduate students also. I've had 1 or 2 that were in their 4th year.

I'm planning to take 5 years because there's too many courses to do in 4 years, so I figured, why not do this? I also have some friends in my current year who are thinking of TAing. I'll wait and see.
