I have this web design skill, and I've been thinking for sometime now if it would be worth it to try and make some money off it. I just don't know if I should go for it or not, because I'm not sure of how I would get customers.

Great windy90, heaps contributive post there mate!

Lol.

My brother does web design. Your best off finding an already established web design company (whos not too big perhaps) and asking if you can trial with them.

If you can prove you do good work, what happens is you let them worry about getting the customers through advertising etc.

The customer goes to the middle man (the guy who employs you) and gives him a design brief, what they want, images they want on the site and a timeframe they need it by.

The middle man then contacts you, says can you do it etc... Advises you of the price of the website and your profit out of that. Remember, hes a middle man and he'll cut into your profits a bit but hey, its a customer you otherwise wouldnt have had, yes?

As for companies you can look at, i'm not sure.

If you message me in about 4 hours... i'll ask my brother when he gets back from grade 11 school. I'll forget if you do it before then.

As an indicator, hes 16 and making a few hundred a week from websites but he has no life, or friends, or a gf, or anything... so hes learnt how to code websites really well.

Anyway, hope that helps your mind-cogs start turning.

It's not you that needs to get customers if you're just the designer.

It's not a good sector to look for work in right now. Hundreds of web design companies are falling every day - an individual without a portfolio is not going to get any work.

Create a website and start advertising. Make sure your website looks good, though.
