Yes/no.  I have loans out in my name already, my dad has paid a fair deal already but I've also given him over 10,000 dollars during the year that I took off between highschool and college to work.

But yeah, he'll cover tuition costs for me, though I've had to get some from my sisters because he'll suddenly tell me he doesn't have the monthly payment... and I'll scrape together as much as I can afford for that monthly payment, and he'll make up the rest sometimes.

Either way, my dad doesn't make paying tuition easy... and it's always stressful when that time of the month comes and I have to get a payment through... but I'm glad he's covering my tuition... but everything else like books, transportation, rent, etc, I pay myself (I moved out as soon as I finished highschool).

My parents aren't paying for mine. I earn my own money. Get a job? Apply for scholarships?

My parents don't even want me to go to University, never mind think about paying for it in any way.
They want me to stay at home and be a full time mother rather than get myself in to loads of debt.

I am going to University, and with the help of my partner, I will be able to get a part time job around my timetable and his work hours so he can look after my daughter and make ends meet.

Good for him. You will have the opportunity to learn the valuable life lesson of hard work

Considering how ridiculously overpriced schools are these days that's really not a good value. I understand the concept of having to pay for your own school as well but if Parents are able to render aid it's better than going into debt or working while at school.

My parents chip in what they can so that I can focus on school without needing to pick up a part time job on top of a more than full course load.

well that sucks. you should remind him that because he has money you won't get a dime of federal aid and that's just unfair.

I think paying for college is the most stupid and unfair thing ever.

i hate shitty parents... mine won't help me out either... im sorry but im not one to believe in the "I'm only your parent till you're eighteen ... then you're on your own." cause they never stop telling you how you should live your life... they only stop paying for the privilege

I had really good grades in high school, and only got one small scholarship. My parents aren't paying for college, and I only qualify for federal loans.

I've often thought about claiming myself as an independent, but there are way too many cons, and I will end up paying more in the long run. I would have to buy health, vision, and dental insurance from the college. I would also have to pay for my own car insurance, and also take out my own policy. I would also have to find my own car because my parents are making payments on a new car for me.

So essentially my parents have made up for the fact that they're not paying for college. They are paying for my car, car insurance, and cell phone. I am going to community college and living at home, so I get free room and board for my first two years.

And also another thing that helped was that I saved nearly all of the money that I made working through high school because my dad wanted me to save it for college and not spend it on things like insurance. I have enough money to pay for my first two years of college right out of pocket.

I'd say I'm in a good situation.

For the first two years, yes.

And for the last, yes.

But not the third.

They ended up shipping in on the third.

My parents paid for my first three years, and are slightly chipping in on the last.

And now they're chipping in on my last year and a half, plus summer school next year. And by chippping in, I mean fully paying.
