The worst feeling in the world is getting out of a ring feeling you boxed badly. At boxing the only other guy sparring weighed 97kg (213lb) and I weigh 67kg (147lb). He's been boxing for years longer than I have. The coach told him to only use his jab which he did do.
For the first round I moved around alot and used my jab and threw combinations of straights catching him a lot. I took very little damage.
Before the second round the coach told me to stop moving around so much and to start using hooks. So I stayed more static and didn't move away from him, which led to every time I threw a jab I got hit in the face. My nose started bleeding (it bleeds really easily since I got hit by a heavy guy last year) and made a bit of a mess. But I got fucking massacred in that round. He was still just throwing jabs, but every time I stepped in I got hit as I threw out my jab.
The third round the coach just told me not to get hit. So I just moved around and used my guard and mainly just parrying his jabs and throwing the odd jab and combination which cought him everytime.
The coach told me that I have to improve my guard and to cover my face with my right hand when I throw my jab as thats where he was catching me every time I threw my jab.
I felt shite getting out of the ring. The second round was a disaster and I boxed really poorly I felt, there was a lot of MY blood on the gloves and in the ring and on my t-shirt (i've never had that much blood boxed out of me). One of the other senior boxers came up to me and said 'I saw you box the first round and you did really well.' I said it was shite and he told me 'Well he is way heavier than you. You shouldn't have been sparring each other.'
I talked to the guy who sparred me and he told me I did pretty well and caught him a lot and it was the weight difference that was against me. But he did ask me how long I was boxing, which I took an indication of how poor my technique was in relation to him catching me everytime I threw my jab.
But I don't think it was the weight difference that was the problem. I think it was me. I mean how could the weight difference affect me getting hit every time I stepped in? And he was only throwing a jab, what if he was throwing a right too? Then I'd have been killed.
I mean this is the worst feeling in the world. I sparred one of the coaches who weighs 67kg like me last week, and I fought him really hard and did really well and looked good. I didn't get caught every time I stepped in and the coach (a different coach) didn't mind me moving around so much. It was an excellent spar.
So I don't really know what to draw from this. Was the other boxer only using his jab (who was a better boxer than me) just better with his jab than most? Can I blame the weight difference and not me? Or is it my fault for not covering myself every time I stepped in and need to do somethign about that? I mean he was 97kg and I'm 67kg....
worst feeling in the world to feel you've boxed poorly and got fucking massacred.
