I have learned that everyone is self-centered in life, and the one thing they put first will always be the choice that furthers them in happiness, success in social status or careers, etc. Whether or not we like it, we all are.
And I've learned to accept it, because now if someone is like "you're so self-centered" because I only invite my best friends to drink in my basement, then I'll be like "I understand I'm self-centered, but I am happy, as are the people I do want to be happy as well and they are here with me, and so you coming will be to no benefit. I like my best friends."
