Who do you think has had the largest impact on American history since the Compromise of 1877 and why?

Personally, I have a tossup of three people with two having positive impacts and one having a negative impact.

Henry Ford. He made it possible for your average Joe worker to be able to afford a car by mass-producing automobiles; starting with the Model T.

President H. Truman. He authorized the army air force to drop two atomic bombs on Japan within 3 days of each other. By doing so, he avoided a full-on invasion, which would have caused a predicted hundreds of thousands of casualties on both sides.

President L. Johnson. He platformed as a peace candidate for presidency, but by 1969, he had committed 542,000 American troops to Vietnam, constantly sending General Westmoreland more troops, instead of pulling them out.

Formspring It's what the cool kids do, right?
I leave the window open at night and pet stray cats.
I even walk on the grass. (Sometimes.)
Baby, I'm dangerous.

One more thing giving Truman a greater impact, his Truman Doctrine/Cold War policy.

Albert Hoffman probably. I don't know.

Imo all the presidents are puppets anyway so it's not really themselves that made any change on history.
