Someone said that all the real support happens on the forums, from regular members and that the status means nothing.

Discuss.

I think there are a few good support leaders.

I am undecided. I still would like to be one, but I don't get why people rack on them.

I'm sure it means something, but people who think only support leaders support kinda piss me off.
Maybe I should just because a support leader... but I'm too lazy to figure out how to do it and blahblah.

All of the support leaders ARE (or have been) supportive. They have to be supportive in order to have the status. If they weren't supportive, they wouldn't have the status, not for long anyway.

But that doesn't mean that regular members aren't supportive either. There are regular members that are supportive that just choose not to be a support leader.

I don't know about that but the SL system is inherently broken and further fucked by the requirement of moderators to become SL first.

I've heard the ehelps are actually pretty effectively used by SLs

It's changed now. They can be a TSL instead.

I also think it is stupid that moderator needs to be a TSL/SL. Once the moderator becomes a moderator, they aren't required to be supportive anymore.

This. The status doesn't necessarily mean anything, but I'd say it's certainly a good sign if you're looking for support.

I believe that there are plenty of great support leaders, and regular members, and that knocking the position is redonkulous.

That's all.

I don't think that support leaders are really anything special.
I mean sure they are supportive and whatever but that doesn't mean that they are the only ones capable of being supportive.

Plus if it a situation they are unfamiliar with then how are they supposed to help?
Us bog-standard members may just have experienced the same problem and be able to help where a support leader cannot ...

I guess my point is you don't have to be a support leader to be supportive and just because you are a support leader, it doesn't mean you will know how to handle every situation you come across, same as any other member.

I would rather talk to a support leader than a regular member when I need support. Not every regular member wants to help and not every regular member will help. If I asked a bunch of the normal members online right now for support, I'm bound to get at least one "fuck off". Support Leaders are good because you know that usually (most of them) will at least try to help.

Yeah I know most all of them arent (not that we could expect them to have time to be) What if you are not a tech savy person? Or alternately what if you simply do not want to "help" other members out that often? Being a contributing member dosent have to mean you anwser e-helps or remind member to plug their electronics in before using them. I can think of boat loads of mods from before the requirement who hardley ever lifted a finger to "help" and are great mods, it just seems a shame that we are missing out on those kinds of people now. It also seems a shame that more and more members are using the SL/TSL system simply to gain the status they need to apply for modom or just to "look cool". Thats why I think the SL system is inherantly fucked, there has to be a better way of doing things.
