Yup. I read that. Fucking shame. The staff is so damn close-minded! And the most fun thing in their town is a freaking BOWLING ALLEY, and now they don't have a prom period because they can't handle two girls as dates at a prom.

 Fucking shame.

I think they wanted to blame it on "protecting homosexuals" from harassment
but they don't realize that this girl is going to get so much crap for ruining the prom

They're not protecting anything, period. They know the outcome that will come from this, and it's disgusting. 2010 and we still have issues like this, what a shame. Just when you think people and equality are progressing, they pull a fast one and quickly retrogress!

No.

Crap like this hits a chord with me. Gay and lesbian couples deserve the same rights as straight couples. If I, as a gay man cannot bring anyone I want to prom with me because you find that it doesn't suit your social norm, I have a right to be pissed. I, regardless of my sexuality, am a human and if you want to prepackage me and would rather shut down your operation than accomodate me, then you have serious issues. It's not an "Okay, I'll shut up and not battle" kind of thing; that mindset is what leads to more unequal treatment. Stand up for your fucking rights Henry.

It made me feel physically fucking sick when I saw this.

It amazes me the prejudice of some people, I honestly can't believe that people are so close-minded. Who the fuck are they to turn around and deny this couples love, their right to dance together at the prom, to show their affection in front of people?

She should have just gone, and not told people/asked if she could bring a girlfriend. People don't care about what they don't know about.

I feel so sad for the poor girl. High school is hard enough without the school board turning the whole school against you. I hope she wins the lawsuit, this is just bullshit.

we've seen this like 50 times who cares she ruined everyones fun now everyone can hate her

On the flip side, everyone ruined their own fun.  All those people that are mad at her?  It's because of people like that that they go to such extremes as to CANCEL a prom over something like this.  If they had been more like the girl in question, the prom would have kept going.

So really, it's everyone's "fault" if you want to place the blame.  Those kids can grow up and be the next leaders of that school and do the same thing to other students.  All to protect themselves from a lawsuit.

My question is: since when do the school authorities ask about your prom dates?

I know that when I was in HS, no one even cared who you were going with.

I'm thinking that maybe they made it a rule known by all the students.  This student was probably just the first one to fight against it.  And then, when they realized that they legally couldn't prevent her from bringing her girlfriend, then cancelled it.

That's my guess.

Well I know at my school if your date wasn't a student there you had to fill out a request form.

I mean, girls go to prom together all the time, but because they're dating it's not ok?

It's ok for girls to dance together at prom as long as they're not dating?

That's just dumb to be perfectly honest.

I will say the the tux thing is kinda weird, though a friend of mine wore a tux instead of dress to the prom. rofl
