It's completely impossible to die of pain from sex even if you're small or tight. The pain varies from each female depending on multiple things. If your hymen isn't torn yet, if you're extremely tight, if you're scared in which it can make you tense up, etc. Experiencing discomfort or any kind of pain is normal though and it's kind of inevitable. Since you already know that inserting something into your vagina is painful then the best thing for you to do would be to prepare and plan your first time beforehand. Something you should make a must with whomever your partner is, is lube. Some women have difficultly getting wet and since I'm sure you'll be nervous and possibly even scared you might have an even more difficult time. Using lube will help make the male slide into you smoother.
You may also experience bleeding during or after intercourse. It's completely normal. The bleeding can be from either your hymen tearing or from being stretched.
My best advice for you would just be to take your time. Make sure you're comfortable with your partner because otherwise it could be an awkward experience and that will probably increase the level of pain you experience.
I'd suggest that you go out and buy some sort of sex toy as well. Use it. It'll help loosen you, not necessarily break your hymen, but it'll help you become more used to the pain and it will eventually be gone.
