I've made a decision after 2 years of being alone to raise my daughter I've had enough. I'm scared, more I'm terrified, but I know it's the right thing to do. I'm going to file for custody of her. I filed for child support on Tuesday, my stomach was in knots the whole time but I did it. I also need some legal advice if anyone can help. I've been out of work for a while and have very little money. Does anyone know how to find a "free" lawyer in PA?

If you don't have any money, how are you going to support a daughter.

go to

maybe you'll find the information there

*also in the case it would be best if you got a job so that the court will see that you can raise and provide for your kid

Same thing I was thinking, if you want your child don't bring her into a house that can not help her grow as a person. Get a job and be financially secure first.

they may have something called Stuent Legal Services, their law students that do legal work for you for free.

We have that in canada, but you should look it up anyway.

Option 2 is getting a legal aid, they cost less and do the same job. Most of them you can set up a payment plan with if you dont have the money upfront.

Hello!  First of all, welcome to LiveWire.  My name is Shaun.  I would love to help you out, so feel free to message me whenever  you need!

This sort of thing is most likely something that not a lot of OUR members have dealt with.  Considering you are most likely older than a lot of our members, I think the best value you can get from these forums for this particular issue is good direction.  I think members will probably be able to point you, but I don't know how much teens will know about the legalities involved with custodial law.

One common phrase people use with law and medical care is "You get what you pay for."  In order to get some lawyer at a free cost, he may not be the best.  It would probably be tantamount to personal research that you can do by yourself.  If you haven't done that, that's a good place to start.  Try looking through this stuff.

If you aren't in work, there might be trouble getting your child custody.  How are you to support the child without a job?  That's the logic that is used quite a bit in those courts, I believe.

What else would you like us to touch on?

First of all I am looking for a job have been for a long time. It is hard these days plus right now until I am fully cleared to go back to work full time I am on assistance. Secondly, my daughter is 2 years old, never went without anything. She has more clothes and toys then most kids her age. I am also a part of an employment hunt program that logs every application and interview I submit and have.  Also she has a large and loving family. So she was brought into a loving family that will help her to grow into a loving person. She was not planned and no she was not conceived because I could not keep my legs crossed. Thank you KeiDesTat and biSEXual. I will be looking into your advice. Anyone know if you can delete a topic you start? I was stupid for posting this here, I guess I thought in the college area, there my be some law students that might have some advice and be more grown up.
