Bring a pair of flip-flops to specifically be worn in the shower.
Leave your door open when you can, it helps you meet new people easier.
Lock your door when you leave and no one is in your room, as well as at night.
If the fire alarm goes off while you're in the shower, it's okay to take 2 minutes to go back to your room and throw some clothes on--walking out in your towel is embarrassing for you, awkward for everyone else, and most likely you'll be super cold.
Get involved in either your hall or a club at least--or both.  Just get involved.
Become familiar with where the learning center is.
Get to know your RA and your roommate to at least an extent where you feel comfortable enough talking to them if an issue were to arise.
Decorate your room.  These dorms are so bear, they look dull and empty with just a bed, dresser, and desk.  Add some of your own style to it so you feel comfortable.
Get in touch with your roomie before the year starts so you can figure out who brings the TV, the fridge, and the microwave.  It kind of suck being the one to bring all 3 (I know), so try and split it up evenly if you can.
Be aware that these rooms collect dust and hair and dirt like crazy, so don't be afraid of cleaning up every now and then.
Always keep a little extra money on you for laundry--and if there is a sign-up list for laundry, use it and follow it.  It's so annoying when you go in there for your time and someone else's stuff is still in the washer and dryer. Don't be that person.
Please be sure to dispense of all sanitary products properly.  It's disgusting walking into a girl's bathroom sometimes.

That's about what I got so far.
