I'm honestly really nervous.

my parents are coming to the bar(father doesn't know it's a gay bar).  My date is coming too(the 47 year old).  some friends of mine are going who don't really get along with my room mate are going.  my room mate is going.  I will be wearing a shirt made by my sister, though(which will be nice).  And now, I have a ton of people whom I just met who I somehow invited while out drinking the other night with my parents.

I wanted it to be laid back, but in the course of 3 days, it became complicated.  I guess I should count my blessings...but still...this is going to be awkward on all fronts.  the date meeting the parents, refereeing between room mate and friends, trying to remember new faces, and all the same time, try to enjoy my b-day.(and get a little closer to my date ^_^)

so taking melatonin tonight for a decent sleep.

Have you considered the production value on a sitcom that has a script like this?

Plus, I didn't even realize that your 47 year old date's never met your parents either. FIREWORKS.

Best of luck with your birthday, bud. Poor planning though, I've got to say..

I'm sorry but this sounds like a recipe for disaster.  You might want to reconsider the location, at least.  And a few of the guests.  There is a time to be assertive and be yourself...and a time to blend in and play nice.  Birthday dinners with the parents generally belong in the second category.

I didn't even ask them to go.  I told my parents I was having a party, and they were like "we want to go!"...how can I say no to two people who cared for me?  besides, turns out my date isn't coming, as he has plans with friends to go to a live concert.  I want him to have a good time, so it makes things a little less stressful.  I did promise him a nice lunch, though, when he has time.
