The same God that Abrahamic religions call the peaceful, living, merciful, and fair, it taught as hateful and vengeful.

This is why I don't take religion literally.

IF there were to be a God. I don't think he/she/it would be able to display any feelings or emotions.

You do realize that the Bible is quite old. You need to stop reading it like it was written this century.

Religion provides cover for good men to do wicked things in the name of god. Just look at what happened in Ft. Hood.

Is god willing to prevent evil but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?

You're right in saying that it does seem kind of paradoxical that the Abrahamic god (or at least, as the Christians and Baha'is see him) hates people, but I don't see why anyone who was just generally peaceful, loving, merciful and fair couldn't hate some people =P

I was also under the impression that it was only (most) Christianity and the Baha'i Faith (and possibly Babism) that saw god as all-loving? Could be wrong though, but it seems to me that Judaism, at least, doesn't apply that to him, nor do some Christian other (LDS and Jehovah's Witnesses come to mind) as far as I can tell. I'm not too sure about Islam.

First, I wasn't asking you. I wanted to know why the OP thinks God is hateful and vengeful.

Second, come back when you can provide examples from a Bible that are in context and not ripped out of history and literature by people such as yourself.
