What do you think about Buddhism?? Because I, as an atheist, value Buddhism higher than other religions, because it makes the most sense amongst all of them, so I wanted to see if other atheists think the same way...

I am atheist. And see a hell of a lot of truth in eastern philosophy. Buddhism included.

It's one of the few organized religions I really don't mind.

But does Buddhism really even qualify as an actual religion anymore?

My father is a Buddhist and an Atheist.  I don't know as much about the religion, but I obviously value it highly. I also think it is more of a philosophy than a religion, not that other religions aren't philosophic as well xD

I don't like its obsessive focus on rejecting materialism, even while using an equivocative connotation of it.
It feels like they're saying to supress that which makes you human in order to be more human.

In a way doesn't Christianity do the same thing?

Anyway I have a strong interest in Buddhism, my only problem is finding materials on it is hard and there are no other practicing people in my area.  What's even worse is the area I live in a strongly Christian area and its looked down upon as being weird and foreign.

Depends on the denomination, but yes, many do though in a different manner.

One of the most hypocritical religions, I've found out.
Very peaceful, but they value strong ego. Certain sects aren't bad but mainstream ones, materialistic and structured. Everything Buddhism shouldn't have been.

That seems to be how many religions end up. Look at Christianity, he taught loving one's neighbors, had people give up their wealth to follow him, ate with sinners, and taught to hate the sin not the sinner.  Now several followers and sects are so far from that that it's sickening.

What would qualify Buddhism as not religious? If anything, the prevailing academic attitudes have much more strongly espoused the fact that Buddhism is a religion by moving away from the antiquated, ethnocentric, Protestant schema of religion that dominated Religious Studies in this country for so long.
