I just recently bought a 1994 Escort. It was idling like crap the other day so I figured since I just got it, it may have been awhile since anyone changed the oil out. I decided to go ahead and change the oil. I used Mobile 1 synthentic oil like I was reccomended on here. Anyways, I drain out the oil and noticed it was extremely dark and even after 10 minutes of draining, it was still coming out. I decided to go ahead and flush it to make sure all the bad stuff got out. I hooked up the hose, ran water through the engine, started it up and was waiting for the water to come out clean (The engine never went above idle so I was told this would be ok). Anyways, About 3 minutes into this, then engine starts shaking and shuts off. I figured it was all cleaned out so I plugged it up, added the oil and figured I was ready to go. WRONG! The car won't freaking start now.

This car has been nothing but trouble for me since I got it. I think I'm done with this piece of shit.

First of all, never ever never run water through the motor. That can create rust around the crankshaft, up and down the cylinder walls, and around the pistons. You said that even after 10 minutes of draining the oil, that it was still not done draining? I don't see a problem there. If the oil was "extremely dark" like you said, that is completely normal. It just means that if had been a while since the car had gone through an oil change. You should of waited patiently for all the oil to drain out. As for the high idling problem, you should of taken the car to a shop, and see what the problem was.

well i got it to start now. but it is making some nasty clanking noises and it lost a lot of power (lol not that it had any in the first place). also the oil pressure is low. Someone told me I should run sand through the motor to get the sludge out? should i do this or just keep driving it right now. BTW I drained the mobil 1 and just put some cheap walmart oil in it.

Your car will be fine. Put some sand in the oil , it will absorb any synthetic left behind.

Put some metal BBs down the intake, it knocks off any solid contaminates left behind
