Cousina for female I don't know. I've noticed this too but really didn't care, or pay much attention to it much.

Because the 'idea' is that you have 1 of each yet you have many cousins. So it takes one ending. Its like in spanish you have masculine and feminine but if you have both together it takes the masculine ending. Same theory

Because you're looking at the question ass end first. The point is not that the titles are gender based, but that gender was the reason the titles were created. As you just noted yourself, unwittingly, there are gender non-specific titles, such as siblings, parents, grandparents. children grandchildren, etc.
