i had them, when i was really young though (10-12)
i thought it was fun to change the colors of the rubber bands every month. but since i was young, it was easier for me to deal with that.
except for the fact that i couldn't eat most candy and any gum at all for those two years

I had Invisalign, which is so much better than braces because you can take them out etc... I was given the choice between metal braces and Invisalign. So I chose Invisalign.

 I had a plate for a year to widen my jaw, then braces for like two years. Yep, they sure do suck, and whenever an adjustment is made to them it will hurt for a day or two but just keep painkillers handy and maybe some icecream or soft foods for those times, and you'll be fine! And get some numbing gel, and wax to place over the braces if they're rubbing your gums (the orthodontist should give you some anyway). You get used to them, and just live with it. It's ALL worth it in the end! Look after your teeth while you've got braces. Avoid drinks that can stain your teeth (like coffee), or you'll have weird marks when you get the braces off. Get in the habit of brushing well. Tell you something - after you've had braces you tend to be amazingly good at brushing your teeth properly... 
Thanks for the advice. I'm just a little worried about having them and looking goofy, and perhaps doing something wrong with my hygiene or something. But thanks regardless.
