If anyone would agree that the below things are just and correct, then I disregard your opinion because most of humanity would agree with me that they are terribly wrong. Who would want to live in a society like that? If it was in your power to not have 850 million poor people, wouldn't you stop it?

Have we really got no control over the world now?

  • The production capacity of modern society could eliminate hunger yet 850 million people go to bed hungry every night and 2 billion of 6 billion people live in poverty.
  • The three richest people in the world are richer than the whole of sub-Saharan Africa.
  • People lose money and jobs because their is too much of a product rather than two little as in previous societies. We cannot control the market.
  • Peasants retained between 50-70% of their labour output. We, the proletariat, retain 0%.

I always hate statistics like that, because, really, what can we do? I mean that we shouldn't start lowering our living standards purely because there are others worse off than us. So kids are dying in Africa, I feel sorry, but it's not like we can just export food, water, and a shit ton of supplies safely, cheaply and easily to deal with the problem. It's too big and widespread to tackle on any scale. We have to help them build their economy and get them to support themselves, not just give aid in terms of perishable goods.

when did the world "decide" to become capitalist?

Couldn't it then just decide to be not capitalist?

Nobody does have the power to though. The problem is too out of hand to for one person to grasp control of.

On top of that, it shouldn't be our problem to sort out. This is why we put faith into our goverments politics, this is why we should have belief in our own goverments and countries. It's not our fault that these problems have been created, they've been going on for generation upon generation.

The only way they're going to be solved is by change. I guess the world just hasn't thought of a good enough change yet.

So you agree that we have lost control of society and that we have alienated ourselves completely from the labour process and our species being?

If in feudalism a King wanted to do that, he would have only needed to say and the production process would have been altered. But not in this society.

um, i think those things you've mentioned are sad. however, i don't find any of them to be reprehensible. it's simply reality.

It's just not that easy. Not only would it take a long time for the global economy to change, but there are to many people whom like things the way they are. (It's worth mentioning that these people are the ones with the money and in turn have more power than us.)

I really wish people would stop assuming that productivity is somehow unlinked the system responsible for it.

I'm not saying that the system cannot be improved, but to assume equal distribution is magically the answer, and that doing so won't negatively affect productivity, is foolish.

I can't posit a method for it, but it seems to me that science is rapidly reaching the point (though note has not yet reached it) of allowing truly autonomous resource generation.

If you managed to raise productivity, at least as it relates to basic resources of food/shelter/water, to an autonomous state through technology, only then can you hope to begin to solve these problems.
Even then, a system based on equal distribution will fail. A system that is, instead, based on a minimum standard of living is what you should be aiming for. Merit must play a role.
