On my Mac, if I use Time Machine---it's set to backup everything.

Does Time Machine then backup all of my applications and their data?

So if I reformat my Mac and start fresh with Snow Leopard, can I restore everything with one click during the setup process somehow? (Isn't there a migration asst. or something?) If so, will it then automatically dump everything into the approaite folders? (Pictures, movies etc?) What about my iPhoto Library----will it remember my Events and stuff or will I have to reload all of that?

Just wondering....

Thanks all! :)

the default is it will backup everything, if you want you can customize it to only backup certain libraries (itunes, iphoto)

I know with PC backup devices you can backup certain files and folders or just image the entire system (including installed programs).

Well if you do reformat and install snow leopard during the install process there is indeed a migration assistant and if you are connected to a networked drive or any time machine device or even an external hard drive with a copy of your mac's on it, it will restore everything. Wallpapers all the way down to InputManagers. Everything.

My advice however if you already have leopard is to just install snow leopard over it. It will work fine in 95% of cases and if not then you have your time machine backup to restore to. Though it depends on how much stuff you have the whole process shouldn't take more than about 5 hours.

are you upgrading to snow leopard? if you are, you can't do a 'full restore' you'd pretty much just have to access the backup once you're in the os(in time machine) and pull your files out.
