Okay, basically, I found a laptop, police gave it to me cos no one collected it.
I got it working, screen doesnt work but I can plug it into a monitor.
It has tonnes of viruses on it, so I just re-installed XP on it.
I managed to find a driver for the speakers, but I don't think I've got the right one for the wireless. It can pick up the networks, but it just "acquires network adress" and never connects..
So either I've got the wrong driver, or something else that I have no idea about.
The wireless was working fine with out internet before I re-installed windows.

I bet you'll accidentally come across secret military files on it.

The lady that it belonged to before me was on some adult hook-up site, had all her login and passwords saved, so I had a little look, and omg I never knew middle-aged people are so gross naked.

you should be able to right click the connection icon and have windows resolve the issue.    Also, START - CONTROL PANEL - INTERNET OPTIONS - Connections tab and click LAN SETTINGS.  lets make sure its on Automatically Detect Settings.

Also, Start - control panel - network connections ... click all the connections (LAN, WAN etc) and check the properties.   You should see 1 or 2 TCP/IP per connection,  dbl click and make sure its on "Automatically obtain address"

i always hated when that happened at a customers house.  I install cable for comcast and have come across this many times.  it could be a number of different things, sometimes it's just the pc acting up
