This is just out of curiosity I suppose.  And self-observation.

In terms of providing support on Livewire (replying to ehelps, posts in the SF, support forums) how would you rank the contributions of moderators in comparison to members?

"Much better" being "far above the average responses/frequencies of the rest of the site" and "much worse" being "absolutely pitiful in comparison to the efforts of other members".

Compared to the site in general, I'd say we're better cos most people don't do anything at all but most mods do something at least once in a blue moon.

Compared to say the rest of the SLs, I'd say we're pitiful.

I try my best to be a good SL, and when I become a mod, and I know I will  , I won't stop being an SL just because I'm a mod

When I look at it, I see it as about 8-9 moderators who try to give consistent support, and who wouldn't be classed as either on probation or borderline by the SL review.  8-9 is roughly one third of our team.  Then I look at the ratio of support members (including SLs) : non supportive members, and I think our odds are significantly better.  If I cut out all the troll accounts and 1 day active accounts, including only active regular members, I'd probably say the members aren't too far off our ratio.

If you compare our team to the SLs though...  Obviously we pale in comparison, because we don't actually have to be supportive, whereas they do.  If you told all the mods they'll be demoted if they don't pass the SL review, I'm sure we'd have a few people demoted, and the overall supportiveness of the team improved.
