Please help me with these issues:

1. I've found my laptop has slowed down a lot. It's start up is very slow and I haven't played Cod4 for ages which had run smoothly, I loaded it yday with the same settings and everything and it was running slower, i had to lower the graphics. My hardrive is 250GB and has 55GB free.

2. Every time I turn it on, after a few minutes (usually when I open windows media player) windows media player encoder stops working. It doesn't do anything to the computer or media player, but i still don't like it.

3. The recycling bin has disappeared from my desktop, so I somehow made a shortcut to it on my desktop, but how do I get the original recycle bin back?

No, defragment is a useless waste of time, especially if you do it 'every two weeks.' How long have you had it? Sounds to me like your HD is full of shit and your PC is running a twatload of ghost processes cuz of malware

Take it to a repair store and ask for it to be formatted, it'll probably cost like £25

I can't wipe the HD because i need it for my coursework. I can't risk forgetting about something important.

Back up all the folders with work in them. If you want to use a shitty laptop all your life that's fine, w/e

Also, @Christ, editting startup isn't going to help especially not since the guy knows nothing about PCs, he will probably turn off services or something.
