I read an article the other day saying how Americans tend to work so much more than other countries, specifically Europe. The article basically said (from two perspectives) that this is b/c of the 'good ole' American work ethic... the parents that expects their little boys and girls to do god work and nothing less... to get a respectable job, etc. etc. I'm about to get my degree and I'm so sick of studying, all I can think of is how I'm going to work even harder when I get into the career world... I love what mechanical engineers do... I just hear they work like crazy... I'm all for working hard, but it seems like the standard weekly hours for most jobs (in the US) are a little crazy -- I know several people who work 5 days a week w/ 11-12 hr shifts everyday... Anyone else think Europe would be a better place to start a career? South Africa? Australia/New Zealand? I would even be willing to learn a new language and start a new life in a completely different culture if it could just give me a promising future. I just don't get how people can live happy lives when their life is filled w/ so much work...

Sometimes I wish I hadn't been in such a hurry to move forward.
There comes a point when it becomes impossible to go back.

I get bored if I work less than 50 hours a week.

So when you're happy (Hurray!), or sad (Aw!),
Or frightened (Eeek!), or mad (Rats!)

Come to Canada. People here make more money, work less and are less stressed than Americans do. On average, obviously.

I've heard the same said about many countries. Quite unfortunate for Uncle Sam.
