The darkers don't like the lighters because they more closely resemble white people, so they aren't 'pure' enough in the black community.  The lighters don't like the darkers because of the hate towards the lighters.

At least, that's how it was explained to me by a bonified black person once.

I was told the issue go as far back as slavery when the darker women had to work in the field and light skin women were like housekeepers and treated better also they were often the masters mistress im sure its more to it than just that though.
