So a member's idea of what they can say and get away with will now be justification for ignoring guidelines?
Guidelines being? DTRM is loosely moderated, and the guidelines in there aren't really strict at all...
Where in the LIVEWIRE guidelines does it say that DTRM gets a pass on how strict the guidelines are enforced? That you Mods may have decided that it's too much trouble and may "inhibit" free expression does not change the fact that the guidelines are there and actually apply to the site as a whole. I'm still interested in knowing how you decide what to enforce, or do you enforce any of them inside DTRM?
All major guidlines are still in play in DTRM. No porn, no topics aimed to attack, no harassment.
Can we expect to see a list of guidelines based on their importance? If they are prioritized, can we get away with some of the lesser ones more often than with those that carry a higher priority? Carie, a rule is a rule is a rule. There are no "major" guidelines. There are simply guidelines. They are either enforced or they are not. When they lose their meaning in one forum, eventually they become less meaningful in other "less support minded" forums as well. And then, at some point down the line, they are ignored altogether, simply out of tradition. It just becomes so easy to do because 'everyone does it'.

Deep Thoughts & Random Musings Post sing-a-longs and other complete randomness! Can't find the right forum? Post it here! Also try the Tech and College forums Should define itself, in my opinion. Who's to determine what's spam, and what's not. The only thing that still bothers me are things such as goodnight topics, but thats another discussion for another time. Like others/most mods will say, who are we to define a random musing?
Tell me then, if no one can determine what is spam, why is there a guideline that says "don't spam"? And if it can be determined, and you can't make that determination, why do you have a blue name?

I agree with you in part. But the way it used to be wasnt a good solution either. I think that discretion allows us a chance to build a better community. we just have to put some thought into it.

I've made a topic about this in M-2-M, actually. No need to be rude about it, kthnx.

Someone once said this:
Spam is like hardcore porn, you can't quite define it, but you know when you see it.
There's nothing concrete that defines spam, really. Bud has the right idea by saying substance but, the moderation team defines it differently.
Apparently they don't "define" it at all if Eklipse is speaking for the Mods. But, still, it IS a part of their job to do so and to do it in such a way that no one else misunderstands what that meaning here, on LW, is.

Did I ever say that spam isn't 'defined' entirely? There is a limit, yes, and I never spoke for every single moderator on here, jeesh. Everyone has their own viewpoints on what is/isn't spam, and that's where I was aiming for with that comment.
