I'm trying to get myself moved out of my parents' house and to San Francisco so I can go to school there. My mom was originally going to fly with me there to help me get set up and then go back home. But, she told me, she thought about it some and realized that we don't have enough money to stay in a hotel while I look for a place to live.
I wasn't planning on doing that, though. I thought I could just find a place online and then it'll be there waiting for me when we went. But what my mom said got me thinking: Is that even possible? I mean, is it safe and fairly risk-free to find an apartment online? Is there some special way to go about it?
Ugh, getting a life of my own is stressful.

It's possible. There are sites that advertise houses for rent or apartments and their rates all across the country. However, personally I wouldn't put a down-payment on anything until I've seen it first-hand instead of looking at an image on the internet. You can definitely use it as a starting point though.

Right, makes sense. But even if I did that, it's a hell of a lot to money to spend on a hotel room for a week or two while we find a place, so it would technically be to my advantage to put a down payment on a place so it's ready when we get there.
But yeah, you make a good point. Fuck. What to do, what to do...

Well, you could schedule a day or two with a bunch of places that are renting to check out the places, as well as potentially signing the lease that day. I had a friend do that when she moved to NYC and she found a great place. You could take the chance of that working out for you.

Yeah, that makes the most sense, dreamweaver. Probably the only thing my mom would go along with, also.
I would, blitzer, but I don't know anyone who lives in SF, anymore.
