Why is it everytime I want to have fun on a Friday or Saturday night, it's all about the PARTIES that are going on and where we can get hammered next? Is life that boring that all you want to do is run around, get waasted so you feel better, and maybe get lucky afterwards?

I am not against partying, sometimes I find it really fun. But it seems like in college, drinking/partying are blown way out of proportion. Some nights I'd rather go see a movie, go play some sports, go to an art exhibit, or something.

I think it just depends where you go. I go to a school that parties hard, but we are big on academics too, so it isn't always a party.

I am in college and I don't go partying. A few hours this woman invited me somewhere and I have no idea where it is because I just don't go out. I think its because I go to school and then I work part time so at the end of the day I am too tired to go anywhere. But its like all college is, is for the parties, I mean my university itself sponsors beer limes every Thursdays and Fridays and a pary every other weekend or so.

I find it irritating that people use higher education as some sort of backwards justification for acting like a complete douchebag in public. Having fun and acting like a drunken asshole are two entirely different things, but for the most part, the latter is all to be found.  I don't go to college to party and I don't plan on allowing partying to get in the way of my education. :/ Some friends disagree vehemently, saying it's "part of the experience" but I honestly think that's bullshit. There are other ways to enjoy oneself.

it's a weekend activity that EVERYBODY can participate in. not everybody can fit in a room and play board games, so they party

I completely feel the same way as you do on this. I'm only in Grade 12, but things are the same way. Getting drunk and partying seems to be what everyone wants to do.

Any time of your life, College or not, drinking and partying isn't everything. You are much more mature than most people are on this, because they just want to go and have a fun time. You've gotten to the point in the needs triangle or whatever it is, that you don't need it to have a fun time. There's absolutely nothing wrong with not wanting to, because movies can be fun.

Join an intermerial team or something! That could keep you occupied. Or just tell them you don't want to go and drink, and you should find something else to do. It works suprisingly well when there isn't that other person to split on booze or to drink with. Ruins plans for the better :)

I have found that a lot of people definitely like to drink. However, I've also found that there are plenty of people that don't enjoy it and that a lot of the people that DO do it don't like it, and do it because they're worried that they won't have a social life. In fact, a lot of people will respect you if you're not interested in drinking. Don't be afraid to offer up other activities!
