Well some philosophers felt they proved God's existence in that it is so unlikely that life would occur by chance. Their evidence was basically, for life to occur we need gravity and magnets and chemistry and all that stuff to be in place, what are the odds?
Considering it's the only reasonable way for anything -to- function, I'd say about 1 to 1. I find it a lot less reasonable to say someone is actively stringing it all together. Thoughts?

But suppose life hadn't existed. We wouldn't know about it. Because we wouldn't exist.
We're only here talking about this bullshit because it turns out life exists.
It's like you, Aimforthehead. Statistically the chances that your genetic makeup is what it is in minimal considering the number of gamete combinations of your parents.
But you are here, today, on LiveWire, because it just so happens those two particular gametes got together. If they hadn't, you wouldn't be here pondering this. Someone else would be sitting in your chair talking about something far more constructive.
My point is I don't see why people place so much special significance on the massive improbability that life would exist. It just does.
99.99999% of the universe does not contain life as we know it (probably). Is it very very lucky that we're here in the 0.00001% of the universe that does? No of course it isn't coz we wouldn't be anywhere else because we are life.

The chance of a specific event occurring are often small, the chance of something occurring are about 1 to 1.

No one is qualified to say that just yet heh.

Okay, but in a universe with a density of around 6 protons per cubic metre, it's more not unreasonable that this is a better estimate than, say, 50% of the universe contains life.

We wouldn't be asking those questions if the universe did not behave with the laws it has, so it doesn't mean that there is a Creator, or whatever.
