i dont get how people get there fix off knowing what happens in
celebrities lives. and most of them complain about how messed up they
are when they read that shit, yet there helping contribute to the problem
themself.

Everyone constantly asks me who acts in certain movies i just came back from the theatre to watch. I cant tell them who, because i simply dont care... and people think im weird for not knowing there names?

sure i know some of the really famous... but shit, when do i have the time
to either research the actors or actually read the credits

Reading about other people's problems make their own lives seem not as bad in comparison. If it makes them feel better, where's the harm?

well the harm is that when they buy the magazines there giving money
to the people who stalk celebrities, take a million pictures of them...you know the papararzzi?  so i meen it does harm someone in the end.

it may not seem like a big deal when you buy one magazine. but it starts somewhere

Eh... even when I was suicidal with clinical depression my life wasn't that shitty.

Hell, if I was a refugee in Guatemala, my life STILL wouldn't be that shitty that I'd willingly read a gossip magazine...

It's harmful mainly because in this day and age gossip columns and entire magazines devoted to them outweigh the importance of real news in this world.

People don't care about politics any more, they just want to know whether Britney's got pregnant again, or if Lindsay Lohan is fucking another girl. Etc.

The so-called political news is hardly any better. It's barely relevant commentary at best most of the time.

For some of the crappier magazines, I totally agree with you.

But a magazine like Entertainment Weekly talks some about what's going on with celebs, but is more into film/TV reviews, and even discusses books, theater, video games, etc. There are ways to be somewhat into that stuff without looking for the creepy stalker-photo things.
