This always has puzzled me. I've been told all my life that my grandmother on my dad's side was full-blooded Blackfoot Indian. But, I have nothing to prove that. Supposedly, her last name was Whitecloud or something like that. I've never been successful at finding the origins of that name. I don't look Native American. I just don't know, I've always denied it, but it always bothers me. I just wanna know. You know? lol

I don't know.

One of my grandparents are Maori (NZ equivalent), therefore I am considered Maori if I want to be.

I don't know. I think that if you wanted to join her tribe (if she was a traditional Native American) there wouldn't be a problem. But just the same you could live as a Caucasian American should you choose to. But it is weird that all the colouring disappeared in so few generations

Basically if you were born in the USA I'd say that you're a Native American.
I'm a Native American too.

Now if you're asking if you're an American Indian that's different. You obviously aren't because you admit yourself that you're majority White.
It's very surprising that you know nothing about your grandmother though.

You said you did a DNA test but did you try testing your father's mtDNA? If his mother was an Amerind then it would certainly show up.

Family tree DNA is probably the most accurate DNA testing company besides 23andme and the mtDNA test is 100$.

You said you took a DNA test and it didn't show an that would give you quite an answer.
What were your results again?

Was Amerindian included as a separate group or were they just thrown in with East Asians like some tests?

I think there's some websites around that can help you trace it back.

You can check this out and maybe send some email to the ppl in the blackfoot website

http://www.native-languages.org/home.htm
http://www.native-languages.org/blackfoot_culture.htm

http://www.blackfoot.org/

I bet they get lots of emails like that but the more info you got the better and if you ask them nice and respectfully they'll probably can give you pointers at least.

I think maybe you can ask them if theres a way to find out more about your ancestry on that side for personal reasons but don't ask too much for proof because they might get a bit touchy about that because of legal issues etc...(plus they might not be able to do that anyway)

Good luck!
