Now what?

I feel so angry. I'm going to college to be a nurse and I'm learning all these things to help people, but does it really help? Does knowing all these latin terms really save people's lives?

I can tell you almost everything about the structure of a bacterial flagella... but it didn't stop his cancer.

I don't know what to do next. I'm just angry and sad and frustrated.

Everyone will have these mixed emotions when someone close dies to them. It is perfectly fine to do so, and it will take some time, whether it be a week or a month, to let go of these feelings.

Science is a non-stop battle with newer issues, such as cancer. And although we might know the way the world rotates and the stars move, we haven't been able to stop cancer yet.
It isn't a reason to be discouraged away from being a nurse. Sometimes losses will be made, but it is the victories and the times they succeed that should be looked upon. 150 years ago, if someone had cancer, that was it. And to now understand and have started to find ways to cure cancer, it is astonishing.

Take some time away from things. Don't let other things stress you out, like relationships and extra school projects. I personally would start watching a series of movies or reading books, to occupy my time. But no one is the same.
You have every right to be sad about this, and I really am sorry for your loss. Stay strong.
