That's a generalization. Many of the rich get that way (and stay that way) because they DO know how to survive.

When a empire falls nothing that the rich have will matter. It all goes down to basic survival. Sure they can survive in a system based on monetary gains, but they can't survive as well as a person who has been homeless.

In another thread, talking about how some of the rich didn't "deserve" their money, someone mentioned Paris Hilton... but she came by her money because of a man named Conrad Hilton. Read a little about him and tell me he couldn't survive. And his is not the only story like that.

If it collapses because of corruption and decandence at the top then sure. But there are ways in whcih the rich can excape all the problems of a falling empire by "buying" their way out of trouble, switching sides, movin to another place etc...
