Alright so how do I find the displacement of a body falling from rest on earth if t is 3 seconds?

This is a physics problem...and of course I have no reason why its a body or whatever.

A body means an object that has mass, lol

The body will fall at the rate of gravity, so 9.81 * 3 = 29.43ms^-1

d = st
  = 29.43 * 3
  = 88.29 m

Pretty straight forward.  In general, the distance equation can be written as...

d = d0 + v0t + (1/2)at^2

d0 is the initial displacement, v0 is the intial speed, a is your acceleration.

In your problem...

d0 = 0, v0=0, and a is gravity, which is a= -9.8 m/s^2

Plug in what you have, and you will find your displacement.

s = ut + (1/2)atē (s = displacement, u = intial speed = 0m/s, a = acceleration = g = 9.81m/sē, t = time)

s = 0 + 1/2(9.81)(3ē)

= 44.145 m = 44.1 m (3.s.f.)

I get precisely half this.

Btw, the object starts at rest.  It's not falling at 3g constantly, which you appear to be suggesting.

In this problem it never falls at constant speed, we just assume it keeps accelerating at 9.81m/sē

I do appear to have fucked this up by not reading the question.

s=ut + (1/2) * g * t^2
s=0 + (1/2)* 9.8 * 9 = 44.1m
